The service uses a state-of-the-art interactive
telecommunications system to teach courses
simultaneously in several school districts. Students can
enroll in regular school and summer school courses
offered by districts in HFM BOCES,
Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES and
Capital Region BOCES plus other BOCES throughout the
state.
Those participating in this
fully aidable service get help with technical planning,
bidding, purchasing, installation and training. A
governance structure oversees the total project under
BOCES direction, while the day-to-day operations are
managed by BOCES.

Distance Learning Summer School
This summer program is for students who have either failed
a course or who want to improve their grades and/or
boost their comprehension of a subject previously taken.
Students may also enroll in soma classes - such as
health - to meet a graduation requirement. Students can
take courses at a Distance Learning lab in any HFM
component school. This program makes summer classes
available to students in schools where there would
otherwise be insufficient enrollment. For host schools,
a teacher's salary is eligible for state aid if
non-resident students enroll in the class through
Distance Learning.
