Playing With Shapes
Materials:
a soft lead pencil, colored pencils, and several sheets of
paper.
Working casually, draw three or more shapes
on your paper with the drawing utensils. Those shapes can be
squares, circles, ovals, rectangles and triangles. Turn your
paper while you draw and overlap the shapes if you feel
comfortable doing it.
Using the pencils, shade in areas between
the lines. Don’t be concerned with the way it looks, just
let your mind drift away to wherever your body leads you.
See what emerges.
On another sheet of paper, draw at least
three overlapping shapes. Look at the drawing from many
different angles to see of you can find a new shape within
the drawing. (Just like if you were looking up at the clouds
and finding animals and other forms.) Finally, shade in
around the new shape with your pencils, and add new lines
and other shapes to your drawing.
