Information for GED test takers

Prospective test-takers should refer to the NYSED GED Testing Web Page for eligibility requirements. The HFM BOCES test center will give priority seating to test takers who take a GED practice test and submit scores indicating a readiness to pass the exams.

GED Practice Tests

Students enrolled in an HFM BOCES GED program will be given the Official Practice Test in class and a certified teacher will evaluate it. HFM Students will also receive assistance submitting required paperwork.

Students taking classes elsewhere can have their application, attachment and practice test scores certified by the program providing instruction prior to submitting them for testing.

Students who are not taking classes have several options to take a GED practice test.
Free practice tests are available online at the following sites:
Steck-Vaughn. producer of the Official GED Practice Test
Mohawk Valley Library System (library card required)
4Tests
Test Prep Review

Students may also take practice tests from a GED preparation book. These books may be borrowed from a local library or purchased from a local bookstore or online merchant. Popular GED material publishers include McGraw-Hill/Contemporary and Steck-Vaughn.

If you do not get at least 60 percent of the answers correct in each section, it is recommended that you join a GED preparation program as you do not demonstrate readiness to pass the GED exam.

Class Registrations
Classes with available space will host orientation, registration, and assessment events after Jan. 1. If you would like to be contacted regarding registration events, please call (518) 762-4633, ext. 168 at any time.
