The Adult Services program at HFM BOCES is designed to provide adults with training opportunities for career and personal development.

Current offerings include:

Licensed Practical Nursing: The Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Program prepares students for the rewarding field of nursing. Because there is a shortage of nurses nationwide, jobs are plentiful and average salaries are in the range of $30,000 per year. Interested students should have completed biology and maintained excellent attendance. In addition, students must be scheduled to take the required LPN pre-test. To register for this test, call (518) 762-4633 ext. 164 or (518) 762-4651 ext. 7-3131. If the test results predict success in the LPN Program, an interview with the prospective student will be scheduled. Through an articulation agreement, students who successfully complete the LPN Program may be eligible to transfer credit to the Registered Nursing (RN) Program at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown.

Commercial Drivers' Training: Would you be interested in earning $33,000 per year the first year on the job? How about a job with great benefits that allows you to see the country without your boss looking over your shoulder? If this sounds good to you, change your life by training to be a professional truck driver through HFM BOCES. Our program is approved by the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) that allows eligible dislocated workers to have all or part of their training paid for by state and federal funds. The CDL A Tractor Training Course offers up to 35 hours of training for the NYS CDL Class A Road Test. Classes are individually scheduled days, evenings and weekends. The CDL B course includes training in handling hazardous materials, air brakes and commercial driving rules. Students are prepared for testing and CDL A and CDL B licensing by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.

Computer Technical Support Training A+/ NET+ Certification: Students are trained to create, upgrade and support existing computer systems in a hands-on environment. Students complete modules in PC System Servicing, PC Troubleshooting and A+ Certification Test Preparation. This international certification program is recognized as the gold standard for the IT industry. Students who attain A+/Net+ certification are more likely to attain a job in the IT field because employers are confident the prospective worker's knowledge has been formally tested. In addition, the credibility associated with these certifications is a great attribute in today's global economy.

NET + Certification: Students learn to install and maintain local area networks. The course covers Windows NT Server 4.0, Peer-To-Peer Network, Volume Sets, RAID, and more. Students prepare for the NET + Certification Test. (A+ Certification is a pre-requisite).

Cosmetology: Getting to the top in the field of fashion requires personal drive, some business sense and lots of imagination, plus a training program designed to develop your full potential. The HFM BOCES Cosmetology program prepares you for success whether you are just starting out, re-entering the job market or upgrading your salon skills to accelerate your career. Training includes 1000 hours in Cosmetology, (250 hours in nail technology), New York State Board Preparation and an internship program.

Business Requested Training: The HFM BOCES Adult Services Department is available to design industry-specific training programs to meet the wide range of needs required by business. Training may be held at the business site or at a BOCES location.

Continuing Community Educations: The HFM BOCES Career & Technical Center offers a variety of personal enrichment courses designed to fit a busy home, family and job schedule. Some examples include: Basic Computer Literacy, Pilates and Water Aerobics.

Basic Peer-to-Peer Networking Wired and Wireless Configuration: Hands on assembly and maintenance of a multiple computer peer-to-peer network, the same type of network used in a home or small business. The course will include detailed instruction in the use of all necessary networking hardware, software, as well as Internet connection via broadband and modem. Students are also trained to share files and folders.
