The PASS program offers a system of dealing with students who
come in conflict with school policy, and is housed at the
Alternative High
School.
With the inception of this program, students who have difficulty
adjusting to normal classroom activities will be referred to the
PASS. The instructional program at PASS is intended to develop a
high level of self-worth in each student capitalizing on the
unique interests and capabilities of each student.
Through participation in the three main components of the
program - Academics, Counseling and School to Work - students
will acquire the ability to interact positively with their
peers, their school and their community.
The home school is responsible for the following:
•
Determining who will attend PASS.
•
Determining the number of days a students will attend in
accordance with policy.
•
Notifying parents by telephone, if possible, and/or a letter.
•
Notifying the PASS teacher.
•
Assisting the student in obtaining his/her class assignment for
those days he or she attends PASS.

PASS Philosophy
PASS operates on the philosophy that normal classroom attendance
and participation is educationally sound and beneficial to the
welfare of students. Therefore, if a student must have
disciplinary action taken against him/her for violation of a
school policy, an effort must be made by school officials to
help the student adjust to the routine of school. This
adjustment should be in an appropriate manner that minimally
disrupts the current curriculum for the particular student and
other students as well.
Furthermore, the PASS program is intended to analyze the
problem(s) a student may be experiencing so appropriate
solutions can be found. This analysis can serve as a preventive
measure for future and perhaps more severe behavioral problems.
Another fundamental goal of the program is that each student
completes all of the assigned schoolwork to the best of his/her
ability, under the supervision of the PASS teacher. The PASS
experience is shaped so that students will gain insight into
themselves and will learn how they can conform to established
statues, policies and tradition - a process that is considered
important for progression and productivity in school and in
society.
