How can the visual arts help students in the classroom?

HFM BOCES itinerant art teacher  explores the role of art therapy

Can art be therapeutic? Could it help to heal the emotional scars some of our children have received from abuse and neglect?

During the 2006-07 school year, HFM BOCES itinerant art teacher Autumn Eve Slawienski-Tracki had the opportunity to take a look at the field of art therapy, through studying the work of Cathy Malchiodi, to see if she could discover answers to those questions. [more]

Adult Literacy

Adult Basic Education and GED preparation services are available throughout the HFM BOCES service delivery area for adults, out-of-school youth, and youth at risk of dropping out of school.

The Adult Services program at HFM BOCES is designed to provide adults with training opportunities for career and personal advancement.

Alternative High School/PASS Program

The HFM BOCES Alternative High School provides an educational option for at-risk students in grades 8-12 whose needs are not met by traditional secondary school settings. Also housed at the Alternative School is the Program Alternative to School Suspension.

Helping students make career choices - and providing state-of-the-art programs to get them started - is what the Career & Technical Center is all about.

Incarcerated Education

The Fulton and Montgomery Academies are located within each county correctional facility. HFM BOCES staff provide a variety of educational and transition services to incarcerated youth and adults to help prepare them for re-entry into the community.

The HFM BOCES Special Education division offers students with disabilities a variety of educational and occupational programs as well as related services.

21st Century Community Learning Center

This afterschool program is offered to middle school students and their families in four districts in Montgomery and Fulton Counties.
