New students
being accepted in ESL and Civics classes
HFM adult education classes help improve communication
skills for work or college.
English as a Second Language classes will be accepting
registrations for classes beginning in January, 2009.
The classes are offered at two locations in Amsterdam,
providing a daytime or evening option.
Morning classes are offered Monday-Thursday at Centro Civico,
143-145 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Beginner classes
meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. - noon. Classes
for intermediate level learners are offered Mondays and
Wednesdays from 9 a.m. - noon. A required
registration/assessment session is on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at
9 a.m.
Classes for beginner-advanced learners are also offered
at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday and Wednesday
evenings from 6-9 p.m. Attendance at the
registration/assessment session on Monday, Jan. 5 or
Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. is required to participate
in this class. Trinity Lutheran church is located at 40
Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
The classes are geared for adults age 21 and older who
need to improve their abilities to speak English or who
wish to improve their communication skills for work or
college.
Classes will focus on listening, speaking, reading and
writing skills, with the goal to improve vocabulary,
pronunciation and vocabulary.
A required assessment/registration class is scheduled at
each location. Students must call to reserve their seat
for the location of their choice.

ESL classes are offered in partnership with Skidmore
College, Trinity Lutheran Church, & St. Mary’s Hospital.
