GED classes to begin in multiple locations

HFM BOCES is accepting new students in January 2009

Demand has been high for GED classes through HFM BOCES and seating is limited in each class, so students must call the office to reserve a seat. Classes have been scheduled in five different locations in Johnstown, Gloversville and Amsterdam. See below for dates and locations.

Students should call 736-4340 or email spodolec@hfmboces.org to reserve a seat at the registration class of their choice. Voicemail is available 24 hours a day. Please provide your name, age, mailing address, phone, email and preferred location. Reserve your seat early!

Students must attend the scheduled registration session for each site. Please bring something to write with, paper, a form of identification that shows your date of birth and a photocopy of that ID. In the first session we will answer questions to determine if the class is right for you, fill out paperwork and begin to assess your skills.

These adult education classes are intended for people age 21 and older. Learners age 18-20 will be admitted based on an interview with the teacher and as space is available.

Books may be purchased from any bookstore or online vendor (used books are available), or you can give a cash deposit of $15 to your teacher if you want to borrow a book. The book you will use is Complete GED published by McGraw Hill/ Contemporary, ISBN# 0-8092-9469-9. The Fulton Book Company in Gloversville (725-7913) offers a 10% discount to HFM BOCES students. Mysteries on Main Street is in Johnstown (736-2665) also carries the book.

You will also need a plain calculator and a Casio fx-260 calculator to prepare for the exam. The Casio fx-260 may be borrowed in class, but may not be taken home.

New students will only be accepted on the dates specified.

Due to the extremely high demand, attendance is required 2 days per week. Please call to reserve your seat: (518) 736-4340.
